Today it was our daughters fifth birthday party and she was so excited! Before we left the house for the party venue, we put together the party bags for all the girls and boys and in their we put a selection of old time sweets, sometimes called old fashioned sweets or traditional sweets. Our daughter chose all the sweets herself and included candy necklaces, lollipops, strawberry and lemon bonbons (her favourites) space dust and and white chocolate mice. It was an early morning party. She had a great party and was telling all her little guests and about the sweetie party bags with old time sweets in there that she had chosen. Once they had finished playing they had their party lunch, a princess ballerina cake and then she gave out the party bags to all her desks – you should have heard all the hmms and haas. Then just as the parents were looking on longingly, I produced a bowl of sweets that I had picked out that I knew most of them would smile and laugh over. There was uproar over who was going to have the 2 sherbet fountains! The bowl included refreshers, drumstick lollipops, black jacks and fruit salads, flying saucers and yes space dust again! I wish I had some more disk space left on my camera because their faces were a treat! Sweets from the 80′s always remind me of the era when I first left school and started going out to pubs and clubs for the first time, alot of clubs when you paid your admission would give you refreshers or lollipops I hear that even in the millenium years some places are still doing this, what a great tradition to carry on.
